Andrea Illés was born and raised in Budapest, Hungary but currently lives in London. After completing her BSc in Biology in Budapest at Eötvös Loránd University in 2010 she decided to fully dedicate herself to environmental and energy policy and since then she has been gradually developing her career in this field. Her first work experience was at Greenpeace Hungary where she was supporting the Climate and Energy Campaign. After this she worked on an energy efficiency project at the Centre for Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Policy at the Central European University in Hungary. In 2011, she enrolled at Imperial College London and in 2012 graduated with an MSc in Environmental Technology with a specific focus on global environmental change and policy.

After completing her degree she joined the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP) in Brussels as an intern and since September 2013 she has been a Policy Analyst at IEEP’s Climate and Environmental Governance Programme based in London. At the Institute, Andrea works on a wide range of pan-European policy research projects for EU institutions, Member State governments and other clients concerning environmental governance, the use of market-based environmental policy instruments, with a special focus on the potential for environmental tax reform in Europe, and the development of EU climate and energy policy. Her extensive involvement in such projects is also reflected in her long list of publications.
