Axum Teferra is an Energy Planner in the Clean Energy Department of the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC), in Boston, Massachusetts.  Axum joined MAPC in December 2014, and leads work in energy efficiency, energy resiliency and cleantech. Additionally, Axum manages the Metro Boston Climate Preparedness Taskforce, a 14-municipality collaborative that aims to build local capacity on climate preparedness and strengthen critical regional infrastructure for a more resilient metro Boston.

Prior to joining MAPC, Axum worked for the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC), where she managed the agency’s cleantech industry and government partnerships, and led clean energy content development and program design for international trade missions to Europe and the Middle East. Axum previously provided capacity-building support and planning tools for sustainability programs at colleges and universities across the US when at Second Nature, a sustainability organization focused on higher education. She also has extensive experience conducting environmental policy research for the Charles River Conservancy; the US House of Representatives; Lowerre, Frederick, Perales, Allmon & Rockwell; and Houston Tomorrow.

Axum holds a Master's Degree in Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning from Tufts University, where she specialized in climate mitigation and adaptation. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Conservation from Texas Tech University.
