Study Tour on EU Energy and Environmental Issues: a Central European Perspective

Eight members of the ELEEP Network met with staff from the Atlantic Council of the United States and Ecologic Institutefor a study tour in Budapest, Hungary from 27 – 29 June 2012. European elements of ELEEP to this point had focused primarily on Western European countries and perspectives.

Europe is increasingly shifting toward renewable energy. Germany is transitioning away from nuclear power to renewable sources, and Denmark recently committed to achieving 35% green energy by 2020 and 100% renewable energy by 2050.

Ecologic Institute and the Atlantic Council of the United States led a transatlantic contingent of the ELEEP Network on a study tour of Detroit and Pittsburgh from 8 to 12 January 2012.

Germany and Austria - Renewables and Rural Energy Opportunities

The first ELEEP study tour, held from 21-26 August 2011, took 15 Americans (primarily from Colorado and South Dakota) and 5 Europeans (from Germany, Latvia, and Sweden) around Bavaria, Germany and Upper Austria to explore how policies, vision, and political leadership are spurring businesses and entrepreneurs to bring about a transition to an energy system dominated by renewable energy.
