Dr. Bruckman has studied forestry at the Vienna University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU), where he earned his PhD in forest sciences. Since 2006, he is researcher at the Commission for Interdisciplinary Ecological Studies of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. His major fields of interests have since then focused on renewable energy, climate change mitigation and the carbon cycle of forest ecosystems. He is principal coordinator of international projects aiming at mitigating climate change by using biomass and by developing sustainable forest management strategies. Dr. Bruckman is board member of the division Energy, Resources and the Environment of the European Geosciences Union (EGU).
