After the UN climate summit and the adoption of the Paris Agreement last year, market-based approaches to climate mitigation are being discussed with renewed interest. On Wednesday, April 27th the ELEEP Network hosted an ELEEP Virtual Discussion centered on the topic of carbon markets with guest speaker Lambert Schneider (Associate, Stockholm Environment Institute). Lambert is among the world's best known experts nationally and internationally on the Kyoto Protocol's Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), a mechanism which created a soaring market and then collapsed as demand vanished. Working on the CDM Executive Board for many years - and as of 2014 as the vice-chair - he is an expert on carbon markets and the respective governance challenges.
The ELEEP Virtual Discussion featured a presentation on the topic "Prospects and challenges of carbon markets after the adoption of the Paris Agreement," followed by a discussion with ELEEP Members. The event took place via Google Hangouts on Air. A recording of the event can be viewed on the ELEEP Network YouTube Channel.
