As part of our continued effort to expand and enrich the dialogue surrounding the environment and energy policies, Ecologic Institute US and the Emerging Leaders in Environmental and Energy Policy Network (ELEEP) hosted a lunch and discussion on Climate Change Policy and Livestock Production in Latin America with Leah Germer, alumna of Ecologic Institute Berlin. The discussion followed a presentation of Leah's MA Thesis, which she completed this spring at American University in collaboration with the Tropical Agricultural Research Center (CATIE) in Costa Rica. Leah's thesis, entitled Which little piggies go to market?Environmental Policy Incentives in Costa Rican Pig Production, explores how policies to promote the energetic use of biogas from pig manure can lead producers to intensify, scale-up, and transition to more emission-intensive production systems.Leah Germer graduated last month from the American University School of International Service with an MA in Global Environmental Policy. She is currently working with the Tropical Agricultural Research Center (CATIE), headquartered in Costa Rica, on a project of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition to reduce emissions from livestock production. This past spring, American University presented Leah with the Mahmoud Hamid Award for Outstanding Achievement in the field of Global Environmental Politics from American University.
